Andalusia 🇪🇸 - Olives, Caminito del Rey and a New Compressor
Sven Walther
Olives, olives, olives
Today we cover good distance on the way towards Málaga, driving for hours through olive plantations - what an enormous monoculture. It is apparently the largest growing area in the world, and after a while you believe that without looking it up.

Out through the olive groves
Even our pitch in Noalejo is on an olive farm. We are welcomed very warmly and immediately handed a small bottle of olive oil as a welcome gift.

Álora and the Caminito del Rey
It is the weekend, which means I can take on a hike away from work again. We drive past tomorrow’s actual destination and head a little inland to Álora.
The pitch description mentioned “more than 20% gradient”. You do not believe everything you read - but those final metres really were very, very steep. And the car park at the top was rather more suited to a small camper van. You still fit.

Álora
What follows is a beautiful hike around and onto the Caminito del Rey - that walkway which in photos always looks slightly like something you should probably not walk on.

Out on the walkway
Hours later, back in town, we walk straight into the Halloween parties and end up in a restaurant serving one of the best meals we have had in Spain.
Málaga - and a longer stop
Now we reach Málaga. Not because we want to see the city, but because I have to fly to Berlin once - dentist - and Mammothon needs a repair to the hot water system, a dripping pressure relief valve.

Our pitch right by the dog beach
Our pitch is right on a dog beach, and the sunsets here are superb. We also run into our tour guides by chance, who are making their preparations here.

Worth coming for
Carrying on, we stop “briefly” at MAN, because I find the air conditioning distinctly underwhelming. That actually takes until the end of the following day - at the end of it we have a new compressor.

On along the coast
And even at MAN there are chance encounters: we are not the only travellers having work done here. By now you simply recognise each other.
