Tabernas and Almería 🇪🇸 - Last Day in Europe

Hollywood in Europe
Hollywood in Europe? As it turns out, yes. Many of the best known desert scenes in film history were shot in the Tabernas desert - and that is exactly where we are now.

Tabernas desert
We hike through impressive canyons and recognise several filming locations along the way. The landscape is simply spectacular.

Through the canyons

Tabernas
And the icing on the cake: our pitch has a restaurant done up in proper diner style. Fitting.
Last day in Europe
We arrive in the port of Almería and meet the other eight trucks we will be travelling through Morocco with for the next 17 days.

In the port of Almería
The mood is a mixture of anticipation, excitement and a little nervousness - because tomorrow the next level begins.

Getting everything ready one more time
Onto the ferry
Today we board the ferry. We may be a truck, but we are still directed down the steep, narrow ramp into the car and camper deck.
Rule number one on a ferry: do not blindly trust the marshal. We learned that one with our first caravan on the way to Norway.

Ferry day
The next morning we are there - hello Morocco. And then we cover ground: first east along the Mediterranean, then south.

The first kilometres in Morocco
We make two stops for SIM cards and a supermarket before slowly reaching the first more remote areas.

It slowly gets quieter
Because of how close we are to the border, we sleep directly in front of a police station. Afterwards we walk around the small town.
