Fetching water - with an incident

Today we temporarily leave the track to refill our water supplies. But we have barely set off when we spot a trail of water on the track.

It quickly becomes clear: one vehicle has a broken coolant hose. So, a spontaneous repair in the middle of nowhere. Teamwork works perfectly out here too.

Next stop: bazaar time. Olives, spices and other good things get restocked - supplies for the days ahead.

Afterwards we reach a campsite in the palm grove of Amezrou: fresh water, shade and, once again, good food.

Into the crater

Another complete change of landscape. Today we drive into the Siroko-Mora crater - which means taking a rough track up over the rim first, then back down inside.

We had trained precise manoeuvring beforehand in preparation. The track had recently been graded, though - making it only half as demanding as expected.

Once inside the crater, tyre change training is on the programme. Not to be confused with changing a wheel - a small but meaningful difference.

Afterwards we take up our spot right on the crater rim, with a fantastic view.

A shared dinner

After the tyre change training it is back over the stony track, out of the crater and into the desert again.

The main event of the day is then a shared dinner: everyone pushes their tables and chairs together and cooks whatever they feel like.

It turns into a lovely, sociable evening - rounded off by another of the fantastic sunsets that are so typical here.
