Olhão and Extremadura 🇵🇹🇪🇸 - Escaping the Weather

Olhão

Another business flight is coming up for me, so we stay in the Faro region. We do leave our previous pitch though, and drive a little further east to Olhão, onto a campsite.

In the end there is exactly one pitch that fits our dimensions - right at the back, in the furthest corner. At least the facilities are quick and easy to reach from there.

We take a boat trip out to one of the islands of the Ria Formosa, and it is genuinely excellent.

Saskia also explores the harbour and old town, which are not really highlights.

Fleeing north

Now we are running from the weather. The Algarve and Andalusia simply will not calm down, and so we bury the route we had actually planned.

Instead we set off northwards - because Salamanca has been recommended to us as “the most beautiful city”.

We do not drive that far in one go, though. Instead we get as far as Cáceres and a large supermarket, to restock everything. After all those weeks on campsites it is time for more travelling and more remote places again.

On the spur of the moment I find a spot in complete quiet at Los Barruecos - and it is a real stroke of luck. Even the weather is finally kind to us.

Salamanca

We carry on to our actual destination: the city of Salamanca, which came so highly recommended.

We park right by the bridge to the old town - once again a car park not really intended for our size. But somehow it works out again.

The old town is beautifully kept, and on the Plaza Mayor we get a fantastic meal.

On the way back we pick up a few pastries - and discover they are two of the best cookies we have ever eaten.
