Over the pass to Rysstad
Today we cross one of the Norwegian passes, from Sinnes to Rysstad. As so often in Norway, the roads are mostly only about one and a half lanes wide. Oncoming traffic? No problem - as long as both sides stay alert.

Up at the Rosskreppfjorden we fit in a short walk. The view across the lake, countless sheep and the impressive mountain landscape make the detour more than worthwhile.

Unfortunately a new noise also makes itself known here: a slipping belt. It will keep us company for a while yet.

Bergen had been on our list for a long time. Although we have travelled through Norway several times, we had somehow always skipped the city. Now we finally put that right.

We find a pitch in the north of the city with good bus connections. Before any sightseeing, though, comes a workshop visit: that squealing belt finally needs looking at.

Fortunately the cause is found quickly: a broken bolt holding our second alternator. After that we can finally turn our attention to the city.

Today it gets properly idyllic again. We find a small farm right at the end of a narrow road. The final stretch climbs a steep gravel track before we finally reach our pitch.

In return we are rewarded with complete quiet. No traffic, no rush - just nature and the sounds of the farm. Exactly the sort of place we love finding out here.

Briksdalsbreen
A circle closes: almost exactly ten years ago we stood at the Briksdalsbreen once before. Now we are back.

Our pitch is right on the lake, and we first set off towards the glacier on foot. Everything goes well as far as the car park - then we realise the last bus back to the campsite leaves too early. There would not have been enough time for the remaining stretch to the glacier.

So we make a second attempt the following day - this time taking the bus straight to the starting point.
