A hike with stairs
Quite how big this staircase actually is was, wisely, kept from me at first.
Our destination is the Midsundtrappene - one of the famous Norwegian stone staircases, and with over 3,000 steps in total, among the longest in the country.

Hiking uphill is demanding enough on its own. But uphill on a staircase? Oof.

Giving up is of course still out of the question. Even after reaching the first summit and discovering that over 1,000 steps still lie ahead.

Atlantic Ocean Road
Today one of Norway’s best known photo spots is on the agenda: the Atlantic Ocean Road. Here spectacular bridges link the small islands together, creating one of the most beautiful coastal roads in Europe.

The crowds are correspondingly large - it feels like everyone wants to take exactly this one photo home with them.

After the bustle we are drawn back to where we feel most comfortable: a small trailhead car park in the middle of nowhere. Let us put it this way - large expedition trucks are presumably not an everyday sight there.

Trondheim
Trondheim had until now always been a city we drove past. We have come through here several times on our way north - this time we finally take the time to explore it.
Nidaros Cathedral
First on the list is of course Nidaros Cathedral. The imposing cathedral is not only the most significant church in Norway but also the final resting place of many Norwegian kings.
The old warehouses
Equally impressive is the historic harbour quarter with its old wooden warehouses right on the water.
