For those who remember: back in Steinkjer we faced the decision - north, west or east. Now we are back at that point.
First we went north, then west to coastal road 17. Now it is the turn of the east, and we cross the border into Sweden. Our destination: the famous Vildmarksvägen.

We reach the northern entry point at Vilhelmina, where we settle onto a beautiful campsite right by the lake. Exactly how you imagine Sweden.

On the Vildmarksvägen
The well-known panoramic road takes us further and further up into the Swedish mountains and onto the high plateau - and naturally we make a few stops along the way.

The first is an impressive waterfall. Sadly there are no walking paths there, so we can only enjoy the view from the viewpoints.
Higher and higher
The second stop is a ski area with a beautiful walking route past streams, small lakes and through moorland. Very much our sort of thing. And finally the high plateau itself.

A little off the Vildmarksvägen - after a few kilometres of gravel - lies the Hällingsåfallet.

Yes, there are plenty of waterfalls in Scandinavia - but this one is among those worth seeing. The canyon the water has carved out here is particularly impressive.

We walk a few kilometres downstream and then back up again.

In the car park we meet another expedition truck - contact details are exchanged immediately. And the gravel track combined with light rain means Mammothon is considerably less clean afterwards than it was before.
